The priests, Religious of the parish together with the parishioners and the students from the two schools of St. Servasious College, Matara & St. Mary’s Girls’ School Matara are now praying the Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries by joining the Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests 2013 from the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara. The recitation of the Holy Rosary started at 10.00 am at the National Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Matara. Thousands of faithful are made aware from different social networks inviting them to be united with the National Shrine at Matara to pray for the priests in the World.

Priests, Religious and Lay Faithful of the diocese were also invited to join us in reciting the Rosary on this great occasion from where ever they are as everyone cannot come to the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara. I am sure that thousands from Sri Lanka are praying for the Priest now by joining the Rosary Relay. Most Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe the Bishop of the Diocese of Galle is now united with us from overseas’ Mission to pray the Rosary.

There after a Holy Eucharist will be celebrated for the intentions of the priests in the world.

Religious delegation from South on friendly tour

Members of the Matara district inter-religious reconciliation committee visited the Puttalam Muhiyatheen Jumma Mosque recently while on their way to the Northern Province on a friendly visit sponsored by the Diocese of Stockholm, Sweden.  President of the Muhiyatheen Jumma Mosque P. M. Janaaf, President of the Puttalam District Jammiyatul-Ulama, Asheik Abullah Mahmood Aalim and many other executive members welcomed the delegation. The President of the mosques gifted date parcels to the visitors. The religious delegation viewed the architecture of the mosque, the fan made by Yark fur and trumpet which was gifted by the last King of Kandy Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. They also saw Muslims performing Uloo before prayers.

During the visit the Chief Priest of the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara Fr. Damian Arsakularatne a member of the Matara District inter-religious reconciliation committee delivered a speech in which he explained that the citizens of this country who are from all religions should live together in peace and understanding. He further said that it was the purpose of their friendly visit. The participants expressed their thankfulness to His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Anders the Bishop of the Diocese of Stockholm and Mr. Charles Camara the international Relations Officer.

Southern Inter-religious Leaders made a courtesy visit to the Bishop of Jaffna


Southern Inter-religious Leaders of Matara & Weligama made a courtesy visit to the Bishop  of Jaffna during their  exposure visit to the Northern Region which  was organized under the project of Enhancement of Peace & Reconciliation among different religious, ethic, ecumenical and civil society groups in Matara - the Southern Province of Sri Lanka funded by the Diocese of Stockholm-Sweden.
